Rayquaza VMAX Deck Evolving Skies

Overview

Rayquaza VMAX Rapid Strike is a very strong card in general. It has no weakness at all so you don't have to worry about getting double damage from your opponent's Active Pokémon. This also means that your opponent will have a hard time trying to OHKO your Rayquaza VMAX unless your opponent managed to deal 320 damage attack within 1 turn.

Although it has only 1 attack [Max Burst], this attack is strong enough to OHKO any Pokémon in the game. Max Burst has 20 base damage and does extra 80 damage for each Fire Energy or Lightning Energy discarded from Rayquaza VMAX Rapid Strike. You will be able to deal 340 damage to your opponent's Active Pokémon if you discard 4 Fire Energy or 4 Lightning Energy or 4 in combination of both Fire Energy and Lightning Energy from it.

Rayquaza VMAX Rapid Strike also comes with an Ability [Blue Sky Surge] that allows you to draw 3 cards by discarding your whole hand. In addition, this effect is not limited to use once per turn so you can use multiple times during your turn as long as you have more than 1 Rayquza VMAX Rapid Strike in play.

Its pre-evolution, Rayquza V Rapid Strike has similar attack which is its second attack, Spiral Burst. This attack also has 20 base damage and does 80 extra damage for each Fire Energy or Lightning Energy from your Rayquaza V Rapid Strike. But you can only discard up to 2 Fire Energy or 2 Lightning Energy. So, its max damage will be limited to 180 Damage.

Energy Setup

Victini V attack, Spreading Flames can be used to accelerate Energy setup for Rayquaza VMAX Rapid Strike. This attack allows you to attach 3 Fire Energy from your discard to Rayquaza VMAX Rapid Strike. Putting Fire Energy cards into the discard pile will be piece of cake with Rayquaza VMAX Rapid Strike Ability, Blue Sky Surge. Furthermore, you can also use Trainer Cards like Professor's Research or Quick Ball to add Fire Energy cards in your discard pile.

You will be able to attach another 2 Fire Energy to Rayquaza VMAX Rapid Strike with Welder and Giant Hearth combo. This way you will be able to easily attach 5 Fire Energy to Rayquaza VMAX Rapid Strike within 2 turns. Then, you can attach 1 Lighting Energy to it and start using its attack, Max Burst with enormous power.

Volcanion with attack, Flare Starter can also be used to accelerate Energy setup in the early game. Since Flare Starter allows you to attach 3 Fire Energy to Rayquaza VMAX if you go second and its your first turn.

If there are some Lightning Energy cards in your discard pile, you can use Tapu Koko Prism Star to attach 1 Lightning Energy to 2 of your Benched Rayquaza VMAX Rapid Strike from your discard pile.

Perhaps, you might not like the idea of accelerating Energy setup using Fire Energy as it has been used many times. In that case, you can try to accelerate Energy setup using new card which is Flaffy [Evolving Skies]. Its Ability, Dynamotor allows you to attach 1 Lightning Energy from your discard pile to 1 of your Benched Pokémon.

In order to attach 4 Lightning Energy to Rayquaza VMAX Rapid Strike from discard pile to get 320 Damage, you need to set up 4 Flaffy. So, this approach obviously slow down the overall speed of your deck as it demands more setup requirements. Unlike  Lightning Energy, accelerating Fire Energy is more efficient because there are both Pokemon and Trainers to do so.

Additional Attacker

It is always good to have back up attacker in your deck in case things went wrong. Volcarona V [Evolving Skies] is perfect partner for Rayquaza VMAX Rapid Strike. As we used Max Burst multiple times through out the game, there is not doubt that you will find plenty of Fire Energy or Lightning Energy cards in your discard pile.

Then, you can start attacking using Volcarona V attack, Surging Fire. This is because for 1 Fire Energy, this attack has 20 base damage and does extra 20 damage for each Basic Energy card in your discard pile. Take note that you need to shuffle those Basic Energy into your deck after using Surging Fire attack.
